The Secret to an Awesome Getting Ready Space

This week, we are taking it back to the beginning of wedding planning when you're figuring out the big question of “where” your wedding & day-of prep will take place! We are sharing our tips for choosing an awesome getting ready space.

You'll most likely be ooo-ing and ahh-ing over the gorgeous ceremony and reception spaces, leaving the getting ready space as, well, kind of an afterthought. Here's why you should make it a priority too!

You'll be spending a lot of time in your getting ready space. Depending on how early your day starts, you could be in your getting ready area longer than at your reception! This is your “base camp” during your wedding day after all. You want to start your day off right and have a safe space to retreat to if needed during the night for a hair touch up or take a breather. The space should feel comfortable, calm, and like a place you can hunker in and hang out with your best pals!

HOW TO HAVE AN AWESOME GETTING READY SPACE:

  1. Choose a space with a large window. Let all of that gorgeous natural light in - natural light is the most accurate to judge your makeup colors in and it creates a beautiful softness to your photos.

  2. Neutral color scheme for the win. Neutral colors will prevent any inaccurate color reflections from appearing on your skin and will let all of your carefully chosen color scheme and accessories pop.

  3. Full length mirror to admire your beauty. Also, as photographers, we love capturing your expression when you see yourself all gorgeous and ready for the first time!

  4. Ample vanity space for you to get ready. Make sure there is enough space for your entire bridal party & wedding day beauty team to get ready! This is especially important if you don't have a lot of time allotted for your bridal party to get ready and have a lot of people. Six girls crowding over one small mirror is just not as efficient (and not very fun).

  5. Don't forget the groom! Don't let the guys be banished to the church basement room! Make sure they have a beautiful space as well with lots of snacks, drinks, and a TV or some sort of entertainment where they can relax and have fun together.

If you've chosen a venue with a less-than-ideal getting ready space, don't worry! Some great options are to book a nearby hotel suite, reserve an Air BnB, or get ready at family/friend's home that's close to your venue. And just remember, we've got your back! Our team has shot getting ready photos in all sorts of situations and we will always produce beautiful and timeless photos to remember your day by.
